British Columbia is Canada's westernmost province. The city of Vancouver, located in the southwest corner of British Columbia, links the rest of Canada with the Pacific Northwest. Vancouver has strong trading, transport, business and cultural links with the rest of the world and serves as a gateway to the Pacific Rim, the United States, and the rest of Canada.
- The 2008 Mercer Report ranks Vancouver as 4th in the world for Quality of Life and 1st in North America.
- The EIU ranks Vancouver first worldwide in its Liveability Index.
- The MasterCard Worldwide Centers of Commerce Index 2008 ranked Vancouver as the world's "most liveable city."
There are other reasons to recommend British Columbia as a location for investment:
- In 2008, KPMG ranked Vancouver as the 4th among comparable cities for its low tax burden. (KPMG, 2008)
- Salaries in British Columbia are far lower than salaries in similar-sized U.S. cities. For example, the annual salary for a Financial Analyst in Vancouver, BC is 27% lower than the salary for the same position in Seattle, WA--even with a $1 CAD= $1 US. (WSJ Salary Expert, 2008)
- BC's time zone conveniently bridges the working day between the capital markets in Europe, North America and Asia.
